Montoya a Doral Golf �d�l�komplexumban volt hogy egy kicsit n�pszer�s�tse a k�zelg� Daytona 500 versenyt. ( Nem hallott�l m�g r�la? Ez a legnagyobb floridai verseny. Huh) B�rhogy is, Montoya �sszem�rte a golftud�s�t a helyi m�dia k�pvisel�ivel.

Montoya az a versenyz� aki majdnem mindig olyan j�, mint amilyennek mag�t gondolja, �s bebizony�tja, hogy t�nyleg olyan j�. Megnyerte a Rolex 24 �r�s versenyt Dayton�ban, a Monacoi Forma-1-es futamot �s az Indy 500-at is. De Daytona meghat�rozhatatlan, m�g sz�m�ra is.

"Fantasztikus lenne" - mondja - " Megnyertem az �sszes nagy futamot, amit lehetett, kiv�ve ezt. J� a kocsi �s j�k a gumik. Jamie (McMurrey) nyert m�lt �vben �s Talladeg�ban is. Nekem is volt p�r es�lyem hogy megnyerjem ezeket a versenyeket.  Ez att�l f�gg csak, hogy adsz-e magadnak es�lyt. �n csup�n ennyit k�rek. "- fejezte be.

On Monday, we saw Joey Logano skating, and Tuesday, we present Juan Pablo Montoya on the golf course. Won't these guys get behind the wheel of a car already?

Montoya teed off at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa to promote the upcoming Daytona 500. (Had you heard about this? Big race in Florida, apparently. Huh.) Anyway, Montoya competed against local media in a golf skills competition, and apparently sank a 20-foot putt, which ain't bad.

Montoya's a driver who's almost as good as he thinks he is, and considering how good he thinks he is, that's saying something. He's won the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the Monaco Grand Prix and the Indy 500. But Daytona remains elusive, and he wants it, badly. 

"It would be pretty cool," he said. "I’ve won all the big races except that one. I’m pretty good on restrictor plates and our cars are pretty good. Jamie (McMurray) won last year, and at Talladega, I’ve had so many chances at winning those races. It’s matter of giving yourself a chance. That’s all I ask for."

That, and your undying admiration, of course.

McMurray, Montoya to Participate in Daytona Fan Fest

Reigning Daytona 500 Champion Jamie McMurray and Juan Pablo Montoya are among the drivers taking part in NASCAR Preseason Thunder Fan Fest at Daytona International Speedway Jan. 21-22. The Earnhardt Ganassi Racing teammates are scheduled to participate in a Q&A and autograph session with fans Friday, Jan. 21 from 5-7 p.m.

Preseason Thunder Fan Fest coincides with NASCAR’s Preseason Thunder, a three-day test session where the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will take to the newly repaved Daytona International Speedway in preparation for next month’s season-opening Daytona 500.

Juan Pablo Montoya seems to be able to win at anything that involves four wheels and an engine.

One of the most versatile drivers in auto racing history, Montoya owns victories in the Indianapolis 500 and the Monaco Grand Prix, two of the world’s most spotlighted races, and in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, one of its longest.

He has won in Formula One, CART, IndyCar and Grand-Am racing and scored in his first full season in Sprint Cup (2007) after shocking the international motorsports world by detouring from F1 to a whole new world of racing in bulky stock cars.

Although Montoya’s NASCAR run hasn’t been as successful as he and team owner Chip Ganassi might have hoped, he has impressed long-time stock-car racing observers by how quickly he learned the ins and outs of Sprint Cup and how his car control didn’t seem to falter despite a radical change in vehicles.

Montoya, 35, approaches his fifth full season in Sprint Cup with a pair of wins – at Sonoma in 2007 and at Watkins Glen last year – and could put an attention-grabbing cap on his career with a victory in next month’s Daytona 500. A triumph in stock car racing’s marquee event would give him wins in several of the world’s most important motorsports events and solidify his stature as a brilliant wheelman in a range of venues and styles.

“It would be pretty cool,” Montoya said of stepping into Daytona’s victory lane. “I’ve won all the big races except that one. I’m pretty good on restrictor plates and our cars are pretty good.”

Indeed, Montoya seemed to adapt to the intricacies of restrictor-plate racing with ease, racing at or near the front of huge drafting packs at Daytona and Talladega in his first season.

In eight races at Daytona, Montoya has two top 10s. At Talladega, he has finished in the top five three times in eight races.

In all likelihood, he’ll have a capable car when teams gather for Daytona 500 activities next month. Jamie McMurray, his teammate, scored in the 500 last year.

Montoya says he’s optimistic about his chances.

“Jamie won last year, and, at Talladega, I’ve had so many chances at winning those races,” he said. “It’s matter of giving yourself a chance. That’s all I ask for.”

The road to that chance will begin Thursday in the first of three days of preseason testing at Daytona International Speedway.
