DRIVER AUTOGRAPH SESSION - BRICKYARD 400
The largest driver autograph session of the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season is scheduled for Saturday, July 30 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Race Day ticket holders for the Brickyard 400 presented by Big Machine Records.com.
Drivers will be split into two groups, signing in pairs from noon-12:45 p.m. and 1-1:45 p.m. at Pavilion 1A and 1B, adjacent to the Pagoda Plaza.
Among the drivers signing will be past Brickyard 400 winners Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick and Jamie McMurray, fan favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. and many more.
Brickyard 400 ticket holders can obtain an autograph session wristband at 9 a.m. Saturday at Pavilion 1A and 1B. Fans can choose from the pairing of drivers they wish to receive autographs, with a maximum of 150 wristbands allotted per driver pairing. Only one wristband will be distributed to each ticket holder, first come, first served.
Driver autograph pairings and groupings will be posted soon at www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com. Pairings and groupings are subject to change.
The autograph session is one of the many fan-friendly activities during Race Weekend. Other events Saturday besides Sprint Cup qualifying and practice include Brickfest, highlighted by a free concert from hard rock stars Hinder, a vintage stock car show and more.
On Race Day, Big Machine Label Group is bringing some of the top superstars in country music, including Reba and Rascal Flatts, to IMS for live performances. Other stars performing acoustic sets between 9-11:30 a.m. include platinum sibling trio The Band Perry, Justin Moore, Brantley Gilbert, Thomas Rhett and more.
The Brickyard 400 presented by Big Machine Records.com is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 31.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway (aka the Brickyard), a place where legends are made. Indy 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya has had a love/hate relationship with this track in NASCAR over the last few years.
Last year, Montoya won the Pole but an accident found him finishing in the 32nd spot, in 2009 he was barely out of the top 10 with an 11th place finish (he started second), 2008 found him finishing 39th with another accident (13th place start). But in 2007, he finished second (after starting second).
Montoya qualifies fairly well at this track (as can be seen above) and if he can get over his bad luck, he should finally be able to pull off an Indy 500/Brickyard 400 double.

Montoya gets new crew chief
Earnhardt Ganassi Racing announced on Tuesday that Jim Pohlman is now the interim crew chief for the No. 42 Target Chevrolet with Juan Pablo Montoya.
Pohlman, who has worked for EGR since 2006 and most recently in research and development, replaced Brian Pattie.
"We are pleased to have someone of Jim's caliber to be able to place into this role on the No. 42 team," team owner Chip Ganassi said. "Jim has been with us a number of years, and I have confidence in his abilities to move the team forward."
Pattie, 36, was the third crew chief for Montoya before being relieved of his duties Tuesday. He started working for EGR in 2004 and accepted the crew chief role with Montoya in May 2008. Together, Montoya and Pattie finished eighth in the points standings the following year in their first full season together. In 2010, Montoya picked up his second career win with his victory at Watkins Glen but finished 17th in the points standings.
This season, the No. 42 Target team started out solidly and remained in the Chase Zone through the first eight races but fell out of the top 10 after Montoya’s altercation with Ryan Newman and subsequent 29th-place finish. In the past 11 events, Montoya slid from 12th to 17th on Sunday.
Pattie acknowledged there have been problems in the pits, including Sunday’s fuel mileage issue when Montoya fell a gallon short.
“Yes, things haven’t gone as plan on pit road over the last few weeks,” Pattie said. “But there are some really nice cars waiting for him over the next three weeks. We have another new car for the Brickyard, and after performing the tire test there, Juan should be in really good shape.”
Pattie, who was already scheduled to be on vacation this week, received the news from Ganassi early Tuesday. Pattie remains with the company and plans to discuss his options with Ganassi when he returns next week.
“I still have a contract with them,” Pattie said. “I’d like to continue contributing in areas where I can use my managerial skills and work on car dynamics. I feel those are my strengths.”
Montoya, 35, joined Ganassi in 2006. He is currently negotiating his third NASCAR contract with the company, but no deal has been struck.

After the 26th race of the season, the field for the 2011 Chase for the Championship will be set.

But between now and the cut-off race at Richmond International Speedway, a lot can and will happen. I predict that at least two of the above drivers will fall out of Chase contention.
Which of the current drivers in the top 25 in the points are likely to make the final cut for the Chase? Here are my thoughts on each driver's odds to make the Chase.

Juan Pablo Montoya has a decent chance to qualify for the Chase as a wild card. He excels on the road courses and could make the Chase on the strength of a win at Watkin's Glen. He also might have to worry about beating out another top-20 driver with one win, so passing a driver like David Ragan should be a priority as well.
Montoya is fully capable of winning at an oval track as well, especially Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where bad luck and driver error have ruined recent opportunities for victories.
